Safe Pill Crusher. No Risk of Injury, Crushes Pills in Seconds

WHY USE A SEVERO ELECTRIC PILL CRUSHER

Do you use a fire stone to start a fire?

The first Mortar & Pestle was created over 35,000 years ago!

The Mortar & Pestle is one of the most commonly found pill crushing tools, along side many other manually operated medicine grinding devices. It's now the 21st century so why are we still crushing medicine & pills by hand, which could cause repetitive strain injury?

The Severo pill crusher will not only save you time, it will totally eliminate any risk of repetitive strain injury caused by crushing pills by hand. The Severo Pill Crusher is fast, safe and easy to clean.

The following investigation and testing was in cooperation with the Dutch Labour Inspectorate Organisation. The Inspectorate SZW works for fair, healthy and safe working conditions and socio-economic security for everyone.

OBJECTIVE OF TESTS

  • To ascertain an indication of the average forces required to crush tablets by hand.
  • It is a recommendation by the Dutch Inspectorate SZW that where repeated crushing of tablets takes place, the maximum force of 5kgf is used during the crushing process in order to prevent repetitive strain injury to the user.
  • The method of crushing the tablet was in keeping with that used with that of a Pestle & Mortar.
  • TEST EQUIPMENT USED

  • Mecmesin – Advanced Force Gauge AFG 1000N.
  • Grinding Head attached to Mecmesim Force Meter.
  • Disposable Plastic Medicine Cup.
  • Various Types of Tablets.
  • METHOD OF TEST

    1. The Mecmesin force meter was fitted with a small grinding head.
    2. The medication to be grinded was placed into a disposable medicine cup.
    3. The Force meter was zeroed and then the grinding head was placed into the disposable medicine cup.
    4. By applying downward force and running the Force meter at the same time. Each tablet or combinations of tablets were ground to dust.
    5. During this process of step 4, the Mecmesin Force meter recorded peak forces that were applied during the crushing process.
    6. All data recorded.

    CONCLUSION

    5

    Recommended KGf

    21

    Average KGf

The maximum allowed force pressure for an employee to apply when crushing pills, should be no more than 5kgf, as recommended by the Dutch Inspectorate SZW (Holland).
The recommended 5kgf of force when crushing pills to help prevent repetitive strain injury, is not only confined to Holland. Each country worldwide will have their own safe working forces that can be applied safely, to help prevent repetitive strain injury.
The test shows that the average amount of pressure needed to grind multi medicines was 21,13 kgf.
However, typical tablet crushing of a single Paracetamol was 16.22 kgf.
Paracetamol is one of the most frequently crushed tablets by care facilities.
Based on these results, the repetitive grinding of medication can be described as a physical overload.
The advice provided by the Dutch Inspectorate SZW will be whenever possible, to replace the grinding of medication by hand with a mechanical solution.
